2) Fever
is a marked sign associated with a bacterial middle ear infection. Otitis media caused by viral infection is usually accompanied by low-grade fever (less than 38.3 Celsius). High-grade fever may be an alarming sign of severe inflammation or the spreading of bacterial infection through the bloodstream.
