3. Speech problems

Ataxia might be a cause of speech problems, but even if the motor function is maintained, patients with brain tumors may have yet other causes of communication difficulty. Certain tumors located in the temporal lobe may cause severe problems to produce language, even if patients have no cognitive problems at all. This is called dysphasia, and it is manifested as a difficulty to express words, pronounce certain words, or differentiate certain terms.
